Mitrex Launches “Solar Brick” a Product that Converts Buildings into Energy-Generating Power Plants

Mitrex, a Canadian solar technology manufacturer, is introducing Solar Brick, a solar-integrated facade solution designed for use as brick wall cladding that transforms a building into a renewable power plant.

Mitrex Solar Brick facades provide up to 330W per panel while imitating the look of traditional masonry bricks found in North American buildings.

Mitrex’s most recent project included the installation of their Solar Brick, which was custom-made to match the post-war era building’s existing brick facade.

The installation includes a 59kW system that covers over 4,000 square feet. The use of Solar Brick in the facade provided the building owner with an energy-generating building envelope while avoiding the poor aesthetics associated with solar technology.

Mitrex specializes in building-integrated solar products (BIPV), such as solar facades, glass, and roof panels, with the goal of incorporating solar technology onto every exterior surface of a structure while maintaining its appearance and design.

Mitrex’s Solar Brick is a cladding product that meets this mission; it is appropriate for both new construction projects and retrofits of older structures, such as recladding or over-cladding.

“Our mission is to transform how we build our structures—electrically-powered buildings are a logical and sustainable solution to combat climate change,” says Mitrex CEO Danial Hadizadeh.

“Everyone can help to reduce emissions by using our products to construct long-lasting structures. There is no room for compromise for builders, architects, and homeowners.”

The Mitrex solar facade has the following features and benefits:

    • Advanced manufacturing methods, developed in Canada, maximize efficiency and functionality.
    • Enhanced aesthetics with a customizable facing layer.
    • Make use of patented anti-reflective and anti-soiling coatings.
    • A wide range of panel size options.
    • The panels can be installed on any structure thanks to a variety of backing options.
    • Solar materials with low embodied carbon, efficient energy generation, and contributions to LEED points can help builders achieve net-zero energy.

Mitrex facade panels are guaranteed to last for years, resulting in durable and energy-efficient building envelopes.
