SmogStop Gets a Smarter Upgrade: Healthy Infrastructure re-launches enhanced Air-Quality Barrier with new streamlined design

The innovative solution incorporates proprietary SmogStop technology into a double-walled transparent barrier that uses a photocatalytic coating to degrade pollutants in real time.

Healthy Infrastructure (‘HI’) has announced the release of a newly developed air-quality barrier system that establishes a new benchmark for cost-effective and sustainable infrastructure. Designed as a wiser alternative to traditional noise barriers, the improved system provides both air quality enhancement and noise mitigation, with an optimized design that lowers material costs and simplifies installation.

Healthy Infrastructure, as a member of EKHO Infrastructure Solutions, has emerged as a leader in the creation of innovative, long-term mobility solutions. This latest improvement exemplifies HI’s dedication to design-driven innovation.

The innovative solution incorporates proprietary SmogStop technology into a double-walled transparent barrier that uses a photocatalytic coating to degrade pollutants in real time. This version’s distinguishing feature is a newly improved baffle design and modular panel layout that speeds up assembly while boosting aerodynamic efficiency and performance. “The opportunity here was to reengineer the system to fit the realities of today’s infrastructure demands,” says Mark Murphy, Healthy Infrastructure Director. “We’ve streamlined the structural components, resulting in faster installs, reduced raw materials, and lower overall system costs.”

The improved SmogStop technology enters the market at a critical juncture, as both the United States and Canada face mounting pressure to fulfill clean energy targets amidst shifting transportation trends. With federal and regional governments pushing for solar integration standards and climate action plans, infrastructure solutions that serve as environmental assets are more crucial than ever.

Traffic-related air pollution is a major contributor to poor urban air quality, especially in congested routes. According to recent research, children with asthma who live or attend school closer to major roadways have much more asthma symptoms, use more healthcare, and have poorer asthma management. According to a recent CDC report, proximity to high-traffic roadways increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, reproductive complications, and premature death, with unequal exposure to traffic emissions disproportionately affecting economically disadvantaged and minority populations.

SmogStop immediately addresses these issues by lowering car emissions at the source. The newly designed barrier system, installed along key routes, absorbs and breaks down dangerous pollutants, thereby helping to preserve the health of adjacent populations, particularly those experiencing the biggest environmental burdens.

SmogStop, which has already been proven in pilot projects, improves urban and roadside air quality while also providing municipalities and DOTs with a viable alternative to conventional noise walls, particularly in high-emission zones.

This current launch builds on HI’s larger aim to accelerate the adoption of cleaner, smarter infrastructure across North America, with a focus on environmental performance and lifecycle value.
