Modine improved their Hot Dawg unit heaters based on feedback from reputable contractors. The Hot Dawg Gas-Fired Unit Heater now has a dimpled heat exchanger tube, which improves efficiency and eliminates internal baffles, resulting in lower noise levels. Furthermore, the gas valve manometer connections have been relocated to the front rather than the side of the valve, making the connecting process easier.
Additional improvements to the gas-fired unit include:
- The flame roll-out sensor has been relocated to the side of the burner box, making it accessible without the need to remove the front panel.
- The control board has been rotated, so the thermostat connections are no longer located beneath the gas valve.
- A pipe stub has been added to the gas valve input, extending through the cabinet, so that all gas line connections are made outside the casing.
In addition to improving service and performance, the unit’s appearance has been upgraded. The Hot Dawg now has a sleek grey finish with contrasting satin black blades and accessories.
The Hot Dawg H20 Low Profile Hot Water Unit Heater was also upgraded during its rejuvenation. The heater, which is designed for homeowners and light commercial areas that use a boiler system, now has a three-row coil as well as half-inch copper water pipe stub-outs. The hydronic unit heater has a new appearance, with a grey outer shell accented by black louvers, which is consistent with the modern style of its electric and gas-powered counterparts.
The Amp Dawg, which has been on the market for a year, is still a powerful electric choice for anyone looking for a non-gas option. The 5.7kW model, designed to provide heating and air throw comparable to the Modine Hot Dawg gas-fired unit heater, is versatile for household applications such as basements, garages, and storage rooms. The 9.0kW unit is designed for bigger workshops and garages, with two phases of regulated heating. Its low-profile design allows for straightforward installation, making it a good choice for both new and retrofitting applications.
