Hilti Launches Simplified Welded Steel Fastening with the FX 3-A Cordless Stud Fusion System

Hilti North America, a global leader in innovative tools, technology, software, and services for the commercial construction sector, saw this as a potential for disruption and created the FX 3-A Cordless stud fusion system to help improve steel fastening.

High-quality welding, bolting, and clamping are considered an art form in the natural resources and shipbuilding industries. Nevertheless, skilled labor is in great demand, hurting project costs and timeliness.

The innovative FX 3-A Cordless stud fusion technology greatly reduces welding time. Cordless stud fusion is up to 75% faster than traditional welding processes and is a fully mobile and autonomous system with no power cords required, covering larger loads and thinner base materials than prior Hilti products.

This form of fastening is also safer than standard welding processes because it protects people from heat and gas. With virtually no sparks, splatters, or odors, and no angle grinder required for surface preparation, it provides substantial health and safety benefits.

A wide range of end-user benefits

Cordless stud fusion, as opposed to welding and other methods like as bolting and clamping, offers for greater speed and flexibility in designing, procurement, and construction.

Engineers know they will receive more reliable loads with repeatable and uniform fastenings, as well as more design flexibility. This innovative fastening approach allows for better usage of supports when used with modular systems such as Hilti’s MT or Oglaend portfolios. This is due to the stronger connection to steel, which is frequently the weak point of supports when using other methods such as clamping.

Procurement can select from a diverse selection of studs that have international approvals and are corrosion resistant (up to C5 in highly corrosive environments). As a result, building is not only faster than traditional methods, but it can also be completed by nearly anyone with no training, lowering the danger of installation error.

The benefit of this system as a whole provides consumers with greater flexibility and capacity to complete their work more quickly. It’s also a more sanitary system because there’s no welding slag, burn marks, or ceramic ring trash. Post-painting is not necessary when utilizing an optional sealing washer with an S-BT-MR SN threaded stud. Customers should expect higher-quality, more consistent fastenings with the easier-to-follow H-code configuration. Furthermore, the Active Fusion Indicator (AFI) provides the installer with systematic real-time feedback to help increase fastening quality.

“The new FX 3-A Cordless stud fusion system is a game-changing departure from how the industry currently approaches fastening on steel—it helps to save time and resources while increasing reliability and safety. This system’s simplicity will also help free up skilled labor to focus on more complex tasks without compromising on this step of construction,” Norbert Tiringer, Hilti North America’s Director of Marketing for Energy & Industrial, stated.
