Sustainable Home and Garage Brand Gear Hugger Unveils New Rust Protection Solution

Gear Hugger, a brand dedicated to preserving your favorite gear while also protecting the environment, has announced the launching of its latest eco-friendly home innovation: Rust Protection.

Gear Hugger’s Rust Protection, which uses a non-toxic vegetable oil base, provides a long-term anticorrosive solution made from environmentally friendly additives that form a protective layer on metal surfaces and equipment parts, shielding them from moisture corrosion and penetrating and loosening oxidation adhesions.

While most rust protectors use harmful petroleum as their base, Gear Hugger’s product is made of a clean formula that excels at rust removal due to its superior penetrability and prevents further rust from reforming, ensuring longer metal life and ultimately aligning with Gear Hugger’s goal of transforming throwaway culture into upkeep culture. Rust Protection is a 100% USDA Certified Bio-Based Product that is non-flammable and free of petroleum, fossil fuels, and volatile organic compounds, making it safe to use around children and pets. It is now being considered by the EPA for Safer Choice Certification.

“We’re elated to kick off the year by offering consumers another product to green-ify their garages,” Checo Diaz, founder of Gear Hugger stated. “The Rust Protection furthers our mission to introduce clean innovations that span the home, garage, outdoors and beyond. This is the perfect way to round out Gear Hugger’s existing product line as the degreaser, lubricant, and rust protector act as a sustainable ‘trifecta’ to clean, lubricate, and protect your gear.”

Gear Hugger Rust Protection adds the brand’s eco-friendly lineup, which also includes the award-winning Multi-Purpose Lubricant and Heavy-Duty Degreaser. With an estimated 100,000 barrels of petroleum consumed daily for lubricants (according to the US Energy Information Administration), the Multi-Purpose Lubricant stands out by offering a plant-based, all-purpose solution that outperforms petroleum-based products with three times the lubricity. The Heavy-Duty Degreaser features a plant- and water-based composition, breaking down filth sustainably without residue on diverse surfaces, from kitchen appliances to outdoor locations. Unlike standard degreasers, it uses a clean mix with plant-based detergents and bio solvents to leave a glossy and moisturized surface by breaking down intractable contaminants at the molecular level.

The unveiling of Gear Hugger’s latest innovation caps off an eventful year for the firm, which saw considerable retail growth in 2023. Last year, the brand made its debut in well-known hardware retailers such as Lowe’s and True Value, as well as the car retailer O’Reilly car Parts. Gear Hugger has also expanded statewide into prominent outdoor retailer REI and natural markets such as Clark Nutrition, Jimbo’s, and Jensen’s.

Gear Hugger hopes to build on its success and notoriety in the natural products, hardware, and other industries in 2024. Gear Hugger’s Multi-Purpose Lubricant won the Mindful Award for Best Overall Home Product last year, and its Heavy-Duty Degreaser was named Best Natural Living Product at the Natural Products Expo East NEXTYs. Furthermore, the lubricant received a Retailer’s Choice Award at the National Hardware Show, joining just 31 other winning goods chosen from the thousands of brands displayed on the NHS floor.
