Michael Baker International Launches New Consulting and Technology Solutions Vertical

Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning, and consulting services, announced the launch of its Consulting and Technology Solutions (CTS) Vertical.

The CTS vertical is focused on technology differentiation and innovation to support Michael Baker’s growth initiatives, including identifying and incubating technologies and maximizing opportunities through consulting and technology-based solutions.

“As we Reimagine Michael Baker to become a full-service engineering and consulting firm, we are strengthening our position to leverage our technology capabilities for our clients and the projects they entrust to us,” said Dan Kieny, Michael Baker International’s President, Consulting and Technology Solutions.

“Our cutting-edge technology solutions and services enable us to add more value to our clients while also completing complex projects quickly and efficiently.

The formation of the CTS vertical enables our firm to differentiate its technology offerings and bundle its services, allowing us to proactively introduce and offer our technology solutions to our clients across the country.”

The new division combines the firm’s technology offerings, which include:

Geospatial Information Technology (GIT) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS): Michael Baker’s detailed understanding of business requirements, strategic planning, focused methodologies, quality control, and collaborative partnerships enable the firm to provide innovative and sustainable GIT solutions to public and private sector clients. The team of GIS professionals, software developers, and visualization specialists work together on a daily basis to deliver projects ranging from the local to the federal level, including broadband, transportation, and water infrastructure.

DATAMARK: Michael Baker’s public safety GIS team, DATAMARK, is the authority on GIS data for public safety. Its data-forward, full-service but configurable solutions deliver the highest levels of public safety GIS data completeness and accuracy required to support any NG9-1-1 system.

LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) and Pavement Technologies: Michael Baker’s LiDAR solutions employ remote sensing technology to collect precise data on roadways, airports, bridges, utilities, and rail/transit systems in order to support planning, engineering design, and smart vehicle technology. Michael Baker also offers a full range of pavement engineering and management services, including complete pavement data collection, assessment, design, and implementation of pavement management systems.

UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems): Michael Baker, one of the first in the engineering industry to receive FAA certification to operate several types of fixed-wing and vertical take-off and landing UAS, continues to pioneer UAS in inspection and survey work. The company’s UAS pilots are licensed engineers and surveyors who create orthophotos and 3D models to support engineering projects. The company also provides services such as emergency response, law enforcement, aerial inspection and mapping, agriculture and wildlife, and others.

“Our CTS Vertical delivers the innovative, technology-enabled solutions to complex infrastructure challenges that our clients seek, ” said Derek Vogelsang, Senior Vice President of Consulting and Technology Solutions at Michael Baker International.

“We are pleased to provide expertise in a wide range of services, including our work in National Broadband. Our team collaborates with government organizations to plan and manage the rollout of broadband services and programs for unserved and underserved populations. Under our National Data Collection and Analysis Services, we also provide the indoor mapping. This technology supports our clients’ work in Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) and facilities management, as well as emergency response and space management, Building Information Management (BIM), engineering design, and construction support.”

The CTS team, led by Dan Kieny, President, Consulting, and Technology, is made up of nearly 200 technology experts.

Under the leadership of Derek Vogelsang, Senior Vice President of Consulting and Technology Solutions, the firm established new national technology pillars to drive growth by assisting in the identification, pursuit, and winning of projects across the country.
