Daikin Applied IAQ-Boosting Sorbent Ventilation Technology to Improve Vision and Skyline Air Handlers

Daikin Applied announced that its Vision and Skyline air handlers will be enhanced with enVerid Systems’ Sorbent Ventilation Technology (SVT).

The said ventilation technology will result in the industry’s first total-air-quality system that combines the benefits of sorbent media with a class-leading, semi-custom air handler. Daikin Applied announced the upgraded Rebel Applied packaged rooftop system with SVT a year ago.

Vision and Skyline, in collaboration with SVT, will continue to address common indoor air quality issues in buildings. Daikin, for example, improves IAQ by removing CO2, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as formaldehyde, and other contaminants through sorbent filtration, which captures pollutants while allowing oxygen and water to pass freely, resulting in cleaner air. The integrated system can reduce outside ventilation by up to 80%, improving humidity control and comfort while lowering annual operating costs by up to 30%.

“Whether a customer wants an air handler and chiller combination, or a packaged rooftop system, we’re now able to bring the benefits of integrated SVT to a broad range of applications,” said Jim Macosko, vice president of product marketing and applications at Daikin Applied. “This enhancement boasts several benefits as a more sustainable and efficient solution, serving as a gateway toward our energy-efficiency and net-zero-buildings goals.”

Cost Savings & Reduced Carbon Emissions

When combined with heat pump-driven technologies, SVT reduces outdoor air loads, resulting in smaller chillers and lower peak and lifecycle energy consumption, resulting in a more sustainable building solution that also supports electrification. Outdoor air conditioning consumes up to 50% of the energy consumed by moderate to high outdoor air applications, such as schools. Chiller plants can be downsized by reducing outside airflow rates while maintaining building air quality, resulting in significant savings in total energy costs. SVT also reduces peak cooling and heating loads, which reduces carbon emissions.

    A Fully Integrated Solution

The inclusion of SVT in the Vision and Skyline air handlers simplifies sizing, installation, and facility design for new and retrofit construction. Engineers and building owners can use the integrated system to appropriately size ventilation for each zone in a single, integrated air-handling unit — with only one set of ducting and one mechanical space Adding SVT for more ventilation to the same space improves IAQ or building occupancy without requiring extra outside air conditioning in retrofit applications.
