Leviton Introduces Industry’s First Smart GFCI Outlet

Leviton has announced the release of the Smart GFCI (Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter) Outlet, the newest addition to the company’s Smart product portfolio.

The new outlet gives users peace of mind by delivering notifications to their smartphones via the My Leviton app if the GFCI trips due to a ground fault. Furthermore, the app enables quick access to information on protection status, such as if a ground fault has occurred or if the GFCI is in test mode. In homes with several Smart GFCI Outlets, the My Leviton app can also determine which Smart GFCI has tripped.

“Our new Smart GFCI Outlet provides the protection every home needs against the hazards of electric shock and electrocution by interrupting power if a ground-fault is detected, coupled with the added convenience of instantly alerting homeowners when a trip occurs,” Leviton Associate Product Manager Stacy Genovese explained. “It is ideal for remotely monitoring critical appliances, so homeowners can take immediate action in the event the GFCI trips and cuts power.”

The Smart GFCI Outlet is an improvement to Leviton’s GFCI Outlet with Audible Trip Alert, which incorporates an optional audible alert that can be enabled or disabled. It compliments Leviton’s Decora Smart product range and may be used in conjunction with other My Leviton-enabled products to create a whole-home smart solution that reflects today’s connected lifestyle.

The device also includes Leviton’s unique Reset Lockout function, which prohibits reset if the GFCI is not properly wired or operational. Tamper-resistant shutters help to prevent the insertion of undesired foreign items, resulting in increased kid safety.

This NEC code compliant and Wi-Fi certified Smart GFCI outlet provides a convenient solution for refrigerators, sump pumps, and other appliances in difficult-to-reach areas such as a garage or basement. It is also ideal for second homes and other remote areas where visual checks are unlikely to occur on a daily basis.

The Smart GFCI Outlet is compatible with Decora and Decora Plus screwless wallplates, as well as the Leviton series of Decora devices. It comes with a 2-year limited warranty.
