The Construction Industry Bands Together to Combat Brain Injuries and Fatalities

The American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) has launched a website dedicated to the construction industry’s transition from hard hats to helmets (H2H).

Many businesses have made the H2H switch in recent years, and the new website aims to raise awareness of this life-saving topic.

The ASCC Safety & Risk Management Council (SRMC) is a group dedicated to improving safety performance, reducing job-related hazards, and ensuring that ASCC contractors are among the safest in the industry.

The SRMC focuses on the most pressing issues in order to provide industry leadership, and the H2H initiative arose from a desire to reduce the frequency and severity of head injuries in the construction industry.

This website was created by ASCC to serve as a one-stop shop for information on the features, benefits, and current and emerging technologies of impact and energy-absorbing construction helmets. The site was built with the assistance of Structural Technologies, LLC, an ASCC Sustaining Member company.

“we are pleased to work with ASCC and other industry partner organizations to support this website which will help get the message out.” said Peter Emmons of Structural Technologies.

“And that message is simple,” he continued, “the construction industry can reduce the number of head injuries and fatalities today by saying no to 60-year-old hardhat designs and yes to helmets that deliver the best technology available for head protection.”

Construction helmets, like helmets used for activities such as biking, skiing, and others, have been extensively tested and approved around the world. They provide protection from head injuries caused by falls, as well as impact and penetration resistance to all areas of the head.

H2H will continue to spread a message that will lead to a reduction in traumatic brain injuries and deaths in the construction industry, with the help of industry organizations and partners.

The H2H website contains information on regulatory requirements, R&D, the evolution of the hard hat to the helmet, helmet success stories, and detailed product information from helmet manufacturers.
