Trimble Introduces Roadworks Paving Control Platform for Mills and Cold Planers

Trimble announced the release of the Trimble Roadworks Paving Control Platform for Mills and Cold Planers, which expands the capability of Trimble’s next-generation 3D paving control system.

Trimble Roadworks for Mills and Cold Planers operates on the Android operating system, allowing operators to accurately manage the mill or cold planer’s cutting depth based on project design.

The user-friendly method enables operators to satisfy the most stringent specifications on the most complex projects, reducing overcutting and resulting in a smoother surface on airport runways, highways, racetracks, and other projects that require maximum smoothness. The 3D design is displayed to the machine operator, indicating sections that are on, above, or below ideal grade, and comparing the actual drum location and slope to the digital design. The platform directs the milling drum to the correct depth and slope without the need for string lines or manual adjustments.

“Complex paving projects such as airport runways and heavily-traveled highways have some of the tightest specifications in the construction industry,” stated Kevin Garcia, Trimble’s general manager of Civil Specialty Solutions. “Trimble Roadworks for milling and cold planing takes both the guesswork and the re-work out of milling, making it easy for operators to mill precisely to a 3D design elevation. The benefits of this extend throughout the entire paving process, creating less work for pavers, decreasing asphalt usage, and increasing overall surface smoothness.”

The milling and cold planing program uses the same user interface as other Trimble Roadworks products, with intuitive graphics, natural interactions and gestures, and self-discovery features to reduce operator training time. The system is compatible with Trimble WorksManager software, which controls data transfer and tracks construction technology equipment across project sites, as well as Trimble Business Center software, which generates 3D milling plans and detailed quality and production reports.
