New First Alert alarms add early replacement reminders, side-load battery drawers, and a standardized ceiling bracket to simplify installation and upkeep.
Resideo Technologies has introduced a redesigned lineup of First Alert smoke, carbon monoxide (CO), and combination alarms. The alarms are built to make installation, battery changes, and replacement easier, and they are available now exclusively in the U.S. at Lowe’s stores.
The lineup includes hardwired, battery-powered, and 10-year sealed battery models, starting at $29.99 (U.S. MSRP). Resideo says the alarms comply with Underwriters Laboratories’ latest industry standards.
A new feature called SoftCue Replacement Reminders sounds a soft tone and lights an LED three to five days before a battery runs low or an alarm reaches the end of its life. The feature is designed to cut down on the late-night chirps common with residential smoke alarms. Separate LED lights signal power, low battery, and end of life, and show whether smoke or CO set off the alarm.
For installers, a common ceiling bracket makes first installs and later swaps easier, and an optional Easy-Fit Mounting Plate hides marks left by an old alarm so the ceiling does not need repainting. The Test/Silence button is nearly three times larger than on previous models. Battery-powered models and hardwired models with battery backup use a side-load drawer for AA battery changes.
All models use Resideo’s Precision Detection sensing, which the company says gives earlier warning of the faster-burning fires seen in today’s homes while cutting nuisance alarms from cooking smoke or steam. Compatible hardwired models can tie into select existing First Alert systems and drop in as replacements with no extra adapters.
“Resideo’s new First Alert smoke alarms redefine how to address everyday maintenance needs, which can help ensure our critical life-safety alarms remain powered, active and ready to alert families to smoke and CO threats,” said Ryan Park, Senior Product Director of Safety and Security at Resideo. “Too often, routine maintenance frustrations can lead homeowners to ignore or disable their alarms, and our simple but meaningful changes make home safety easier to manage while helping families maintain protection.”
