Introducing CrewCost: The First Modern and Affordable Accounting Software for Construction Contractors

CrewCost’s cloud-based construction accounting software was created by the founder of Esticom, a cloud-based takeoff and estimating tool bought by Procore.

CrewCost, the first inexpensive accounting software created for contractors by contractors, is pleased to announce the debut of the firm and its eponymous product. CrewCost’s cloud-based construction accounting software was created by the founder of Esticom, a cloud-based takeoff and estimating tool bought by Procore. It is designed exclusively for contractors to help them better understand their figures and build confidently.

Small and medium-sized enterprises dominate the construction industry in the United States, and many of them lack the financial management capabilities required for long-term survival. According to the most recent U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data, about 40% of construction contractors go out of business within five years.

“With billion-dollar corporations controlling the vast majority of construction revenue, we want to help level the financial playing field for the small and medium-sized contractors who build our homes, schools, and hospitals,” said Chris Lee, the founder and CEO of CrewCost. “CrewCost creates modern, easy-to-use construction accounting and financial management products accessible and affordable for contractors of all sizes.”

CrewCost is construction accounting software that combines task costing and time tracking in a simple yet robust platform. Contractors may manage and track committed expenses, change orders, retainer payments, and progress billing. In addition, the CrewCost apps for Android and iOS allow employees and subcontractors to track and submit their time. With CrewCost, contractors can see how each task affects earnings, allowing them to build with confidence.

CrewCost Story

Chris, a former construction business owner, witnessed firsthand the difficulties of utilizing generic accounting software in the contracting industry. He attempted to integrate point solutions, use spreadsheets, and hire expensive external help—a painful process that diverted critical attention away from other aspects of the firm.

This experience provided him with valuable insights into the operational and financial issues of running a contracting business. In 2015, he founded Esticom, a cloud-based takeoff and estimating program that enables contractors to bid and win more projects. Esticom’s success resulted in its acquisition by Procore Technologies in 2020.

In 2022, Chris collaborated with Yancy Lassiter, a long-time financial controller and CFO in the construction sector, to develop a better way for contractors to run their firms. Their mutual vision sparked the concept for CrewCost.
